About this release
SketchUp models the way people sketch: draw a face, push it into a solid, pull an edge, cut an opening. That directness is why it spread through architecture, interiors, joinery and stage design faster than any parametric modeller ever did. An idea becomes a three dimensional model in the time it takes to explain it.
The Pro edition is the one that matters for professional work. It adds LayOut for turning models into dimensioned drawing sheets, solid modelling operations, importing and exporting of the exchange formats other applications expect, and classification for handing models to a building information workflow.
The extension ecosystem is enormous and is a large part of the value. Rendering engines, parametric add ons, terrain tools, joinery libraries and reporting extensions all install through the extension manager and appear as native tools. Most professional users end up with a set of five or six that shape the program around their trade.
Scenes and styles handle presentation. Saved camera positions, section cuts, layer visibility and edge styles combine into scenes that animate into a walkthrough or export as a set of drawings, all from the same model.
What it does
- Push and pull modelling
- Direct geometry editing that stays fast from sketch to detailed model.
- LayOut
- Dimensioned drawing sheets generated from the model and updated when it changes.
- Solid operations
- Union, subtract and intersect for real manufacturable geometry.
- Extension manager
- Installs rendering, terrain, joinery and reporting add ons as native tools.
- Scenes and section cuts
- Saved views combine into walkthroughs or drawing sets.
- Exchange formats
- Import and export the formats that CAD and rendering applications expect.
Changed in this version
- Faster performance on models with very high face counts.
- LayOut viewport rendering improved on large sheets.
- New native tools for revolved and swept geometry.
- Better handling of imported CAD geometry with dense linework.
- Extension manager reworked with clearer version handling.

Install order
- Unpack the archive.
- Run the installer and let it place both the modeller and LayOut.
- Launch once and choose a template that matches your working units.
- Install extensions afterwards through the extension manager.
Worth knowing before you start
Template choice sets working units, so pick it before starting a real model.
Extensions built for an older release may need updating.
