About this release
Revit is a building information modelling application, which in practice means the model is a database that happens to draw itself. Walls, floors, doors, ducts and beams are objects with properties, and every plan, section, elevation, schedule and sheet is a view onto the same data. Change a door type once and every drawing that shows it updates, along with the door schedule.
The three disciplines live in one application. Architecture handles the building fabric, structure handles framing and analytical models for engineering handoff, and the services side covers mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems with real connectivity and sizing. Linked models let separate teams work on their own file and see everyone else's in place.
Worksharing is what makes it viable on a large job. A central model on a server with local copies for each person, synchronised through the day, with element ownership handled so two people cannot edit the same wall. Coordination review flags where a linked model has changed in a way that affects your work.
Documentation output is thorough. Sheets, title blocks, view templates, dimension standards, tags, keynotes and schedules all follow office standards set in a template, so a project starts already conforming rather than being corrected at the end. Export covers the exchange formats that consultants and contractors expect.

Install order
- Unpack the archive to a path without spaces.
- Close other Autodesk applications first.
- Run the installer and include the content libraries for your region.
- Launch once, then set the office template and view standards before starting a project.
Worth knowing before you start
Regional content libraries are a large part of the install size but are worth including.
Model performance depends heavily on processor clock speed rather than core count.
