About this release
After Effects is the layer based compositor that most broadcast graphics, title sequences and explainer work still pass through. The 2026 build keeps the composition timeline, the effect stack, expressions and the shape layer system exactly where they were, and puts its effort into render time and into how well the program behaves when a project contains dozens of nested compositions.
Multi frame rendering keeps all available cores busy on previews and final output, which changes the working rhythm more than any single new effect could. Previews that used to be a coffee break now resolve while you watch, so the loop between adjusting a curve and seeing the result is short enough to actually iterate in.
The 3D side has matured. The extended viewer handles cameras, lights and imported geometry with real time draft shading, and shadows and reflections resolve properly on final render. Combined with the shape and text layer tools this covers most of the work that used to require a trip to a dedicated 3D application.
Tracking, rotoscoping and keying are all present in full. The planar and camera trackers solve reliably on handheld footage, the roto brush propagates across a shot with far fewer manual corrections than earlier versions needed, and keylight handles green screen work with spill suppression that does not eat fine detail.
What it does
- Multi frame rendering
- Previews and exports use every available core, which cuts wait time on heavy comps dramatically.
- Extended 3D workspace
- Cameras, lights, geometry and draft shading in a viewer that stays interactive.
- Roto brush
- Propagates a matte across a shot with far less manual cleanup than earlier generations.
- Planar and camera tracking
- Solves for handheld and moving camera plates and hands the solve to layers directly.
- Expressions engine
- Full scripting on any animatable property, with a faster evaluator on long comps.
- Dynamic link
- Comps drop into a Premiere Pro timeline live, with no intermediate render.
Changed in this version
- Render engine tuned further for high core count processors.
- 3D viewer draft shading is faster and closer to the final result.
- Roto brush propagation improved on motion blurred edges.
- Effect search reworked with a flat searchable list.
- Project open time reduced on files with deep nesting.
System requirements
| Processor | Intel or AMD with 64 bit support, eight cores or more recommended |
|---|---|
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 64 GB for heavy compositing |
| Graphics | GPU with 4 GB of dedicated memory |
| Disk | 15 GB plus fast storage for disk cache |
| Display | 1920 by 1080 or higher |
Install order
- Unpack the archive to a folder without spaces in the path.
- Close Premiere Pro and Media Encoder if either is running.
- Run the installer through to completion.
- Set the disk cache to a fast drive before starting a real project.
Worth knowing before you start
Disk cache defaults to the system drive and should be moved for heavy work.
Dynamic link expects the matching Premiere Pro build.
