Photoshop is still the room that most image work passes through, and the 2026 build is the widest that room has ever been. Layers, masks, adjustment stacks, smart objects and the brush engine all sit where they always did, so anyone who learned this program years ago can open it and keep working without a tour. What changed is everything sitting behind the canvas. Generative fill, expand and background replacement now run against Flux Kontext Pro and Gemini Nano Banana, and the results land as ordinary pixel layers you can mask, blend and throw away like any other.

The build in this listing is the complete desktop application rather than a trimmed portable shell. Camera Raw ships with it at the matching version, the full brush and gradient libraries are present, the neural filter set is installed, and the plug in host loads third party panels without complaint. Colour management, soft proofing, CMYK conversion and 16 bit and 32 bit pipelines behave exactly as a print or retouch shop expects them to.

Performance is the quiet headline. The 2026 engine keeps far more of the document resident on the graphics card, so brush lag on very large canvases has largely gone, and selections on hair, glass and motion blur resolve in a fraction of the time the previous generation needed. Documents past the two gigabyte mark open without the long stall that used to make retouchers dread heavy composites.

For anyone coming from an older release, the transition costs almost nothing. Workspaces, actions, brushes and keyboard shortcuts import from a previous installation on first launch, and the legacy interface density option is still in preferences for people who never wanted the roomier panels.

Generative layers that stay editable

Fill, expand and replace write to their own layer with a live mask, so a generated region can be repainted, feathered or deleted later without touching the plate underneath.

Selection that copes with hair and glass

Object selection, subject detection and refine edge share one engine now, and the result comes back as a proper mask you can hand straight to a group.

Camera Raw at the matching version

The raw front end opens as a smart filter, so exposure, profile and lens work stays adjustable for the life of the document.

Full plug in host

Third party panels, filters and colour tools load through the standard plug in folder, including panels built for the previous two generations.

Colour that survives the handoff

Soft proofing, ICC handling, spot channels and CMYK separation are all present, so files going to press behave the same way they did on the last version.

Large document handling

Tiled rendering and graphics card residency keep panning and brushing smooth on canvases far past the point where earlier builds started to stutter.

Install order

1. Unpack the archive to a folder that has no accents or spaces in the path.
2. Close any running Creative Cloud component from the notification area.
3. Run the installer and let it finish without interrupting it.
4. Start the application once and let the first launch cache build before opening large files.
