Marvelous Designer Enterprise

Version 2026.0.315Marvelous Designer2.18 GBEnterpriseRefreshed 1 week ago

Cloth simulation and virtual garment construction built on real pattern making rather than sculpted geometry.

About this release

Marvelous Designer approaches digital clothing the way a tailor does rather than the way a sculptor does. Flat pattern pieces are drawn in a two dimensional window, sewn together along their edges, and then simulated onto a body in three dimensions where gravity and the fabric properties decide how it hangs. The result is that garments drape correctly because they were actually constructed, not because someone pushed vertices around until it looked plausible.

The fabric model is what makes it convincing. Weight, stretch, bend resistance, friction, thickness and damping are all set per material, so silk, denim, leather, knit and heavy wool behave distinctly under the same motion. Presets cover the common materials and can be tuned when a specific behaviour is needed, and the simulation runs interactively so a change in fabric is seen immediately rather than after a render.

Construction detail goes well past the basic shape. Pleats, darts, gathers, elastic, buttons, zips, topstitching, seam allowances and multi layer garments are all supported, and internal lines control where a fold sits or where a fabric is reinforced. The pattern window works with real measurements, so a garment made here corresponds to something that could be cut and sewn.

The Enterprise tier is aimed at production rather than a single artist. Animated simulation handles a walking or moving character with collision against the body and against other garments, high quality mesh output exports with clean topology and unwrapped coordinates for texturing, and the file formats cover the modelling, animation and rendering applications that the rest of a pipeline runs on. Batch simulation processes a set of garments or poses without supervision.

What it does

Pattern based construction
Flat pieces drawn and sewn, then simulated, so garments drape because they were built correctly.
Physical fabric properties
Weight, stretch, bend, friction and thickness per material with presets for common cloth.
Full garment detailing
Pleats, darts, gathers, elastic, fastenings, topstitching and multi layer construction.
Animated simulation
Cloth solved against a moving character with body and garment collision.
Production ready output
Clean topology and unwrapped coordinates exported to the common modelling and rendering formats.
Batch simulation
Sets of garments or poses processed without supervision.

Changed in this version

  • Simulation solver is faster on high resolution meshes.
  • Improved collision handling on tight multi layer garments.
  • New fabric presets added to the material library.
  • Pattern window gains better measurement and grading tools.
  • Export topology cleaned up further for downstream texturing.

System requirements

ProcessorMulti core, 3 GHz or faster
Memory16 GB minimum, 32 GB for animated simulation
GraphicsGPU with 4 GB of dedicated memory
Disk8 GB free
Display1920 by 1080 or higher, dual display useful for pattern and simulation windows

Install order

  1. Unpack the archive to a short path.
  2. Run the installer and let the material and avatar libraries deploy.
  3. Launch once and set the working unit system to match the pattern work.
  4. Run a short simulation on a sample garment before importing a production character.

Worth knowing before you start

Simulation resolution drives both quality and time, so test at a low setting first.

Set the unit system before pattern work begins rather than converting later.
