About this release

ArcGIS Pro is the desktop application at the centre of most professional geographic work, and its defining idea is that a project holds everything: maps, scenes, layouts, data connections, models and the analysis history that produced the results. Two dimensional maps and three dimensional scenes sit side by side in the same project and share the same layers, so a terrain question and a mapping question are the same session rather than two applications.

Data editing is thorough in a way general drawing tools are not. Features are edited against topology rules, attribute domains constrain what can be entered, versioned editing lets several people work on the same dataset without overwriting each other, and the whole geodatabase model keeps relationships, subtypes and validation attached to the data rather than living in someone's head.

The analysis side is enormous and, importantly, reproducible. Hundreds of geoprocessing tools cover overlay, proximity, statistics, interpolation, network routing, terrain, imagery classification and space time work, and any sequence of them can be assembled into a visual model or a script that reruns against new data. Every run records what was done, which is what makes results defensible when someone asks how a map was produced.

Cartography is treated as a discipline rather than a print button. Layouts hold multiple map frames, dynamic text, legends, scale bars and grids, symbology supports rule based and data driven styling with real typographic control on labels, and output goes to press ready files, web layers or packaged projects that open complete on another machine.

System requirements

Install order

1. Unpack the archive to a short path.
2. Install the bundled runtime prerequisites if the installer requests them.
3. Run the main installer and let the extension components deploy.
4. Open the application once and set the default project and geodatabase location.
