Dassault Systemes CATIA V5-6R2022

Version P3 V5-6R2022 SP6Dassault Systemes18.9 GBP3 PlatformRefreshed 2 weeks ago

The surfacing and assembly system that aerospace and automotive programmes have been built on for decades.

About this release

CATIA is the system that shaped a great deal of what gets manufactured at scale. Aerospace structures, car bodies, industrial equipment and consumer products with difficult surfaces have been designed in it for long enough that entire supply chains speak its file formats natively. The P3 platform in this listing is the widest configuration, with the advanced surfacing, kinematics and analysis workbenches enabled rather than the base mechanical set alone.

Surfacing is where it separates from everything else. The generative shape design and freestyle workbenches build class A surfaces with continuity control that a stylist and an engineer can both work with, and the curvature analysis tools show exactly where a highlight will break before anything is cut. That capability is the reason it stays in automotive body design regardless of what else the company runs.

The workbench structure is the other defining trait. Part design, assembly, drafting, sheet metal, composites, tubing, electrical routing, kinematics and analysis each have their own environment with its own toolbars, and the same model passes between them without export. A team can hand a structure from design to routing to analysis inside one application.

Assemblies scale to whole products. Constraint driven positioning, publications for controlled interfaces between components, and skeleton driven design let a large team work against a shared structure without stepping on each other. Drafting produces associative drawings with the tolerancing standards the aerospace and automotive groups require.

What it does

Advanced surfacing
Generative shape design and freestyle workbenches with continuity and curvature analysis for class A surfaces.
Workbench structure
Part, assembly, drafting, sheet metal, composites, routing, kinematics and analysis in one application.
Large assembly design
Constraint driven positioning, publications and skeleton driven structures for team scale products.
Kinematics
Mechanism definition and motion simulation run against the design model rather than a simplified copy.
Associative drafting
Drawings that update with the model, with aerospace and automotive tolerancing standards.
Broad exchange support
Native and neutral format exchange with the systems the rest of a supply chain uses.

Changed in this version

  • Service pack rollup with a long list of stability corrections across the workbenches.
  • Faster loading on very large assembly structures.
  • Surfacing tools gain improved continuity reporting.
  • Drafting view generation quicker on dense sheets.
  • Updated exchange translators for recent versions of the neutral formats.

System requirements

Processor64 bit Intel or AMD workstation class
Memory16 GB minimum, 64 GB for large assemblies
GraphicsProfessional GPU with 4 GB of dedicated memory and a certified driver
Disk45 GB free on solid state storage
Display1920 by 1080 minimum, dual display recommended

Install order

  1. Unpack the archive to a short path with no spaces or accents.
  2. Install the licensing component before the main application.
  3. Run the main installer and select only the workbenches you need.
  4. Apply the service pack afterwards and start the application once before real work.

Worth knowing before you start

The service pack must be applied after the base install, not before.

A certified graphics driver makes a visible difference to surface display quality.
