About this release
Civil 3D exists because civil design is one continuous chain of dependencies and drawing it as static lines guarantees that part of the chain will be out of date. Survey data makes a surface, the surface carries an alignment, the alignment produces a profile, the profile and an assembly build a corridor, the corridor generates cross sections and volumes, and every one of those depends on the ones before it. Here they are linked objects, so moving the alignment updates the profile, the corridor, the sections and the earthwork quantities without anybody redrawing anything.
It starts with survey. Point data imports from field instruments and point clouds with descriptions and codes intact, figures are built from field coding, and surfaces are constructed with breaklines and boundaries, then edited, smoothed and compared against a design surface for cut and fill. Surface analysis covers elevation banding, slope, aspect and watershed, which is where most site work begins.
Corridor modelling is the core of any road, rail or channel job. An assembly describes the cross section with lanes, shoulders, kerbs, ditches and side slopes as parametric subassemblies, and the corridor applies it along an alignment and profile, targeting existing ground and widening where the design says so. Sample lines produce sections, and quantity takeoff reports material volumes directly from the model rather than from an estimate somebody produced separately.
The rest of the discipline is covered too. Pipe and pressure networks with parts lists, rules and clash detection, plan and profile sheet production that lays out a route across sheets automatically, grading objects for pads and basins, and full labelling and annotation styles that update with the objects they describe. Underneath it is the ordinary drafting platform, so the files exchange with everyone else on the project.

Install order
- Unpack the archive to a short path without spaces.
- Close any other drafting application before installing.
- Install and let the country kit content deploy fully.
- Set the drawing template and units for your region before starting a project.
Worth knowing before you start
Data references let a team share surfaces and alignments across drawings, so set the project structure up first.
Corridor rebuild time depends heavily on sampling frequency, so keep it coarse while designing.
