About this release

WPS Office is the suite people install when the machine needs to handle documents properly but does not need several gigabytes of application to do it. Writer, Spreadsheets and Presentation cover the same ground as the word processor, spreadsheet and slide tools everyone already knows, and the ribbon layout is close enough that nobody needs retraining. The whole install lands in a fraction of the space a full desktop suite takes, which is why it turns up so often on older laptops and on machines that are shared between several people.

Format handling is the reason it survives in mixed offices. Files written by the dominant desktop suite open here with formatting, tables, footnotes, tracked changes and embedded charts intact, and files saved back out open cleanly on the other side. The same applies to documents exported from browser based editors, which tend to arrive with slightly odd styling that this suite absorbs without complaint. For an office where documents arrive from a dozen different places, that tolerance matters more than any headline feature.

The tabbed document interface is a genuinely good idea that the bigger suites never copied. Every open file lives in a tab inside a single window, so a desk with fifteen documents open is one entry on the taskbar rather than fifteen. Tabs drag out into their own window when a second screen is involved, and drag back when it is not.

PDF work is built in rather than bolted on. Any document exports directly to PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinks preserved, and the bundled reader handles annotation, page reordering, merging and splitting, plus conversion back into an editable document. For a lot of small offices that removes the need for a separate PDF application entirely.

Install order

1. Unpack the archive to any folder.
2. Run the installer and choose which of the three applications to place on disk.
3. Launch one application once so the font and template caches build.
4. Set the default file associations if this suite is meant to be the primary one.
