Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus Online Installer

Version 3.3.16Microsoft8.42 MBOnline installerRefreshed 4 days ago

A small front end that pulls the full desktop suite down from source and configures it during the install.

About this release

This is an installer rather than the suite itself. It is a few megabytes, and everything it installs is fetched from the publisher's own distribution network while it runs, which means the result is always the current build rather than a snapshot taken whenever the archive was packed. For anyone setting up more than one machine that difference matters, because there is no long update pass after the first launch.

The configuration screen is the reason to use this rather than a plain setup file. Before anything downloads you choose the suite version, the architecture, the display language and exactly which applications are included, so a machine that only needs the word processor and spreadsheet does not receive the database, publishing and communication components as well. That choice usually cuts the install to a third of its full size.

Update channel selection is available in the same screen. The monthly channel keeps a machine on current features, and the enterprise channels hold a build in place for longer stretches so a validated environment stops moving. Whichever is chosen is written into the configuration and the suite follows it from then on.

The installer also handles the awkward cases. It can remove a previous suite installation cleanly before laying down the new one, it can repair a broken install in place without a full removal, and it can write the chosen configuration out to a file so the identical setup can be repeated on the next machine without going through the screens again.

What it does

Always the current build
Files come from the publisher's distribution network at install time, so no update pass is needed afterwards.
Pick the applications
Include only the components a machine actually needs and skip the rest entirely.
Architecture and language choice
32 bit or 64 bit and the display language are both set before the download starts.
Update channel control
Choose a moving feature channel or a held enterprise channel and the suite follows it.
Clean removal and repair
Strip a previous suite installation properly or repair a broken one without a full reinstall.
Reusable configuration
Save the chosen setup to a file and repeat it on the next machine without the screens.

Changed in this version

  • Configuration screen simplified with clearer component grouping.
  • Faster download with parallel connections to the distribution network.
  • Improved removal of older suite installations before setup.
  • Interface scaling corrected on high density displays.

System requirements

Processor1.6 GHz or faster with two cores
Memory4 GB recommended
Disk10 GB free for a full suite install
NetworkA working connection for the duration of the download
SystemWindows 8.1 or newer

Install order

  1. Unpack the archive and run the installer as administrator.
  2. Choose the suite version, architecture, language and components on the configuration screen.
  3. Pick an update channel and start the download, leaving the connection up until it finishes.
  4. Launch one application once so the first run configuration completes.

Worth knowing before you start

The download runs for the length of the install, so a stable connection matters more than disk speed here.

Saving the configuration to a file makes repeating the same setup on other machines quick.
