About this release

This is an installer rather than the suite itself. It is a few megabytes, and everything it installs is fetched from the publisher's own distribution network while it runs, which means the result is always the current build rather than a snapshot taken whenever the archive was packed. For anyone setting up more than one machine that difference matters, because there is no long update pass after the first launch.

The configuration screen is the reason to use this rather than a plain setup file. Before anything downloads you choose the suite version, the architecture, the display language and exactly which applications are included, so a machine that only needs the word processor and spreadsheet does not receive the database, publishing and communication components as well. That choice usually cuts the install to a third of its full size.

Update channel selection is available in the same screen. The monthly channel keeps a machine on current features, and the enterprise channels hold a build in place for longer stretches so a validated environment stops moving. Whichever is chosen is written into the configuration and the suite follows it from then on.

The installer also handles the awkward cases. It can remove a previous suite installation cleanly before laying down the new one, it can repair a broken install in place without a full removal, and it can write the chosen configuration out to a file so the identical setup can be repeated on the next machine without going through the screens again.
