About this release
Kutools is an add in that puts a few hundred prepared operations onto their own tabs in the spreadsheet application. Every one of them is something that is technically possible already but takes five steps, a temporary column and a formula nobody wants to write again. Combining columns without losing data, splitting one cell into many, converting text that looks like numbers into actual numbers, removing every blank row in a selection, unmerging cells and refilling the values: all one button.
The range and cell tools are the ones that get used constantly. Advanced sorting by text length, by frequency or by a custom list, selecting cells by a set of criteria across a whole sheet, comparing two ranges and marking what differs, transposing a table while keeping references intact, and converting between a flat list and a cross tabulated table without rebuilding it manually.
Workbook and worksheet management is the other heavily used group. Combining many workbooks into one, splitting a sheet into separate files by the values in a column, printing selections across sheets in one job, creating a navigable index of every sheet, copying a page setup across a whole workbook, and renaming or reordering large numbers of sheets in a single dialogue.
There is also a genuinely useful navigation panel that sits beside the sheet, listing workbooks, sheets, named ranges and a clipboard history, plus a formula library of common calculations written correctly so nobody has to remember the syntax. Everything installs as ribbon tabs beside the existing ones and can be switched off without affecting the application underneath.
