About this release

VueScan exists because scanner manufacturers stop supporting hardware long before the hardware stops working. It carries its own drivers for several thousand flatbeds, document feeders and film scanners, including a great many that no longer have a working driver from the company that made them. A scanner that a current system refuses to see at all will very often appear here immediately.

Beyond keeping old hardware alive, the scan quality controls are far deeper than the software that shipped in the box. Colour balance, black and white points, curves, multi pass sampling, infrared dust and scratch removal, grain reduction and per channel exposure are all exposed, and the preview updates as they change. For film work there are profiles for a long list of negative stocks, which removes most of the guesswork from inverting an orange mask.

Document scanning is handled just as carefully. Automatic feeder support with duplex, blank page removal, deskew, despeckle, multi page output and optical character recognition produce searchable files straight out of the scan rather than needing a second application afterwards. Batch naming rules keep large jobs organised without renaming anything by hand.

The professional edition adds raw scan files, which is the feature that makes archival work practical. The raw file holds everything the sensor captured, so a scan made once can be reprocessed years later with different settings and without going back to the original print or negative.

Install order

1. Connect the scanner and let the system finish detecting it before installing.
2. Unpack the archive and run the installer.
3. Pick the scanner from the source list on first launch.
4. Set the output folder and file naming rules before starting a large batch.
