About this release

TypingMaster teaches touch typing the way it has always been taught properly: home row first, then a few new keys at a time, each introduced with a drill and reinforced until it stops requiring thought. The course is graded across dozens of lessons from first contact with the keyboard through to numbers, punctuation and the numeric pad, and the pace adjusts to how the learner is actually doing.

The analysis is what separates it from a page of exercises. Every keystroke is timed, so the program builds a picture of which keys and which combinations slow you down, then generates drills targeting exactly those rather than making you retype material you already handle well. Progress reports show speed and accuracy over time so improvement is visible rather than assumed.

There is a background component for people already typing all day. It watches typing in ordinary work, without recording what is written, and periodically suggests a short exercise for the problem keys it has noticed. For someone with a self taught technique and years of bad habits, this is the part that actually changes anything.

Games and timed tests break up the drilling. Speed tests produce a certificate style summary with words per minute and accuracy, and the game exercises put the same key patterns into a format that holds attention longer than a plain drill. Several learner profiles can be kept on one machine with separate progress for each.
