About this release

The built in uninstaller runs whatever removal routine the program shipped with, and that routine is written by the same people who wanted the program on the machine in the first place. What it leaves behind is folders in the application data directory, registry keys, services, scheduled tasks, drivers and file associations. Multiply that by a few hundred programs over a machine's life and the accumulation is real.

Revo runs the program's own uninstaller first, then scans for what it missed. Leftover folders and registry entries are presented in a list with the safe ones preselected, and nothing is removed until you agree to it. A restore point and a registry backup are written before the removal, so an aggressive clean can be undone if something on the machine depended on an entry that looked abandoned.

The hunter mode is the feature people keep it for. A crosshair sits on the desktop and can be dropped onto any window, tray icon or shortcut, and the application identifies what program it belongs to and offers to remove, stop or investigate it. For the piece of software whose name you do not know but whose window keeps appearing, nothing else finds it faster.

The Pro build adds installation tracing, which is the most thorough approach available. Start the trace, run the installer, and every file, folder, registry key and service the installation creates is recorded. When that program is removed later, the removal is exact rather than a best guess. Alongside that there are forced removal for broken entries, a browser extension manager, a startup manager and the ordinary cleaning tools.

System requirements

Install order

1. Unpack the archive.
2. Run the installer with administrator rights.
3. Leave the backup and restore point options enabled on first run.
4. Start an installation trace before installing anything you may want removed cleanly later.
