About this release
Deleting a file does not erase it. The entry that pointed at it is removed and the space is marked as reusable, but until something writes over that space the contents are still sitting there. Recovery software reads the volume directly, reconstructs what the file system used to say, and pulls the contents back. The single most important thing is to stop using the drive immediately, because every write reduces what can be recovered.
The scan runs in two stages. A quick pass reads the remaining file system structures and usually finds recently deleted files with their names and folders intact within a minute. If that is not enough, the deep scan reads the entire volume sector by sector and identifies files by their internal signatures, which recovers data from a formatted or badly damaged volume although the original names are usually gone.
Preview before recovery is what stops the process being a lottery. Photographs, documents, video and audio can be opened inside the application before anything is written out, so you can confirm a file is actually intact rather than recovering four hundred damaged fragments and sorting them afterwards. Filters by type, size and date narrow a scan result that runs into hundreds of thousands of entries.
The bootable environment is included and covers the case where the machine will not start at all. Written to a stick, it boots into a minimal desktop with the recovery application already running, so data comes off the internal drive without the failing system ever loading. It works across ordinary drives, solid state drives, memory cards, cameras, sticks and volumes from a machine that has stopped posting.

Install order
- Install onto a different drive from the one you are recovering, never onto the damaged volume.
- Unpack the archive and run the installer.
- Write the bootable environment to a stick first if the machine will not start.
- Run a quick scan before committing to a deep scan.
Worth knowing before you start
Always recover files to a different drive than the one being scanned.
The sooner a drive is taken out of use after a loss, the more can be recovered.
