Driver Talent Pro

Version 8.1.12.72OSToto76 MBProfessional editionRefreshed 1 week ago

Finds, installs and rolls back device drivers, including for the hardware nothing else identifies.

About this release

A fresh system install usually leaves a handful of devices unidentified, and tracking each one down by hardware identifier across manufacturer websites is a slow and unrewarding job. This scans the machine, matches every device against a large driver database and installs what is missing, including the network adapter that would otherwise have to be sorted out before anything else could be downloaded.

Beyond first setup it handles the ongoing job. Outdated drivers are listed with the installed and available versions side by side, updates install individually or in a batch, and every change is preceded by an automatic backup of the driver being replaced. When a new graphics or audio driver causes a problem, the rollback restores the previous version in a couple of clicks rather than through a system restore.

The backup and restore side is what makes it useful before a reinstall. The complete driver set on a working machine is saved to a single archive, and after the system is rebuilt that archive restores everything at once. For an older machine with hardware whose manufacturer no longer exists, that saved set is often the only remaining source of a working driver.

There is a small hardware panel alongside it showing what is actually in the machine: processor, memory configuration, storage, adapters and their current state, along with basic temperature and health readings. It also covers peripheral drivers that general updaters often miss, including printers, scanners, controllers and audio interfaces.

What it does

Unknown device identification
Match unidentified hardware by its identifier and install the correct driver without hunting through manufacturer sites.
Offline network driver
Install the network adapter driver on a fresh system that cannot get online yet.
Automatic pre update backup
The existing driver is saved before a replacement installs, so rollback is always available.
Full driver set backup
Save every driver on a working machine to one archive and restore it all after a rebuild.
Rollback
Return to the previous driver version in a couple of clicks when an update causes a problem.
Hardware overview

Changed in this version

  • Driver database expanded with recent graphics and chipset releases.
  • Faster device scanning on systems with many peripherals.
  • Backup archives are smaller and restore more quickly.
  • Improved detection of devices behind docking stations.
  • Interface reorganised with clearer update grouping.

System requirements

Processor1 GHz or faster
Memory2 GB minimum
GraphicsAny adapter
Disk500 MB free plus space for driver backups
NetworkRequired for downloading drivers, except from a saved set

Install order

  1. Unpack the archive and run the installer as an administrator.
  2. Back up the current driver set before installing any updates.
  3. Update one driver at a time on a machine that is working correctly.
  4. Restart when prompted so replaced drivers load properly.

Worth knowing before you start

Graphics drivers are usually better taken from the card manufacturer directly.

Keep the driver backup archive off the machine it came from.
