About this release
vMix replaces a rack of production hardware with one computer. Cameras, capture cards, network streams, screen captures, remote guests, video files, still images, titles and audio sources all become inputs, and the preview and program layout works exactly like a hardware vision mixer: build the next shot in preview, check it, cut or transition it to program.
The production toolkit is complete rather than a set of basics. Multi layer overlays for lower thirds and bugs, chroma key with proper spill suppression, picture in picture and multi view layouts, animated titles that read from a spreadsheet or a live data source, instant replay with multiple angles and adjustable speed, an audio mixer with per input processing and delay, and a tally system so camera operators know when they are live.
Output goes everywhere at once. Stream to several destinations simultaneously at different bitrates, record locally at full quality while streaming at a lower one, send a clean feed out over the network for another machine, drive an external monitor as a program output, and provide a virtual camera so the whole production appears as a webcam inside conferencing software.
The professional edition raises every limit. More inputs, more simultaneous recordings and streams, more replay channels, higher production resolutions and the multi corder for recording individual camera feeds alongside the program mix. Control surfaces and hardware panels map to the shortcut system so a production can be run on buttons rather than a keyboard.
What it does
- Preview and program workflow
- Build the next shot, check it and cut or transition it to air exactly as on a hardware mixer.
- Wide input support
- Cameras, capture cards, network streams, screen captures, remote guests, files and images as inputs together.
- Chroma key and overlays
- Green screen with spill suppression, multi layer overlays and picture in picture layouts.
- Instant replay
- Multiple angles with adjustable speed and marked highlights during a live event.
- Simultaneous stream and record
- Push to several destinations at different bitrates while recording locally at full quality.
- Multi corder and virtual camera
- Record individual camera feeds alongside the mix and present the production as a webcam to other software.
Changed in this version
- Encoder performance improved for simultaneous multi destination streaming.
- Remote guest connection quality improved on unstable networks.
- Instant replay handles more channels on the same hardware.
- Title designer gains additional data binding sources.
- Audio mixer adds per input delay adjustment.
System requirements
| Processor | Intel or AMD with 64 bit support, six cores or more for high definition production |
|---|---|
| Memory | 16 GB minimum for multi input production |
| Graphics | GPU with 4 GB of dedicated memory or more |
| Disk | 2 GB for the install plus fast storage for recording |
| Display | Two displays strongly recommended for gallery and program |
Install order
- Unpack the archive and run the installer.
- Install capture card drivers before first launch so inputs are detected.
- Set the recording folder to fast storage separate from the system drive.
- Run a full rehearsal at production settings before going live.
Worth knowing before you start
Recording to the system drive during a live production risks dropped frames.
A second display makes the preview and program workflow far easier to run.
