About this release
Magic Bullet is the set that editors reach for when a cut needs to look graded and the schedule does not allow a proper grade. Looks provides a stacked chain of camera, lens and lab stages that behave like a real photographic pipeline, Colorista handles precise primary and secondary correction, Mojo lays down the contemporary complementary look in one move, and Cosmo does skin work without turning faces into plastic.
The Looks interface is the centre of it. Rather than a stack of unrelated parameters it presents a virtual camera path: subject, matte box, lens, camera body and post stages, each accepting tools that behave the way the physical equivalent does. Diffusion goes in front of the lens, a gradient goes in the matte box, grain and curves go in post, and the order affects the result exactly as it would on set.
Colorista covers the technical side. Three way colour with proper scopes, secondary keys with masking, guided colour that matches one shot to another, and support for log and high dynamic range sources so material shot flat can be brought back correctly rather than crushed. Shot matching across a multi camera scene is the job it does best.
The rest of the suite fills in the gaps. Denoiser cleans up high sensitivity footage while keeping detail, Renoiser adds grain back where a clean image looks wrong, and Cosmo smooths and evens skin with edge aware processing that leaves eyes, hair and clothing untouched. Everything installs into the common editing and compositing hosts from one installer.
What it does
- Looks with a camera style chain
- Tools placed on subject, matte box, lens, camera and post stages, in the order a real pipeline would apply them.
- Colorista grading
- Three way correction, secondaries with masks and shot matching, with scopes and log handling.
- Cosmo skin treatment
- Edge aware smoothing and evening that leaves eyes, hair and edges sharp.
- Denoiser and grain
- Clean up high sensitivity footage, then reintroduce grain where a clean image looks artificial.
- Large preset library
- Starting looks shown as live thumbnails, adjustable and saveable back into the library.
- Multi host install
- One installer places the set into every supported editing and compositing application present.
Changed in this version
- Rewritten render path with substantially faster playback on Looks chains.
- New preset collections built for log and wide gamut sources.
- Cosmo edge detection improved on hairlines and glasses.
- Denoiser handles very high sensitivity footage with less detail loss.
- Scopes updated with a clearer readout at small panel sizes.
System requirements
| Host | A supported editing or compositing application already installed |
|---|---|
| Processor | 64 bit Intel or AMD, six cores or more recommended |
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB for high resolution work |
| Graphics | GPU with 4 GB of dedicated memory |
| Disk | 4 GB free |
Install order
- Close every host application before installing.
- Unpack the archive and run the installer.
- Select the hosts that should receive the plug ins on the component screen.
- Reopen a host and apply one effect so the shader cache builds before real work.
Worth knowing before you start
Projects built with an earlier suite version open with parameters carried across.
Working in a wide gamut project setting gives Looks the most room to operate.
