Grass Valley EDIUS Pro

Version 9.20.3340Grass Valley1.72 GBProRefreshed 2 weeks ago

Broadcast oriented nonlinear editor built for fast turnaround on mixed format news and event material.

About this release

EDIUS built its reputation in newsrooms and event production, where the edit has to be finished before a deadline that does not move. Its defining trait is that it plays almost anything on the timeline at once, in any resolution, frame rate and codec, mixed together, without conversion or proxy generation first. Material arrives from four different cameras and cuts immediately.

The timeline itself is conventional but unusually quick to drive. Trimming, ripple, roll, slip and slide all have keyboard bindings that experienced editors lean on hard, and the program is designed around the assumption that the mouse slows you down. On a machine with modest specification it stays responsive where heavier applications begin to stutter.

Format coverage is broad and includes the broadcast codecs that consumer oriented editors ignore, alongside camera formats and high resolution material. Timeline resolution is independent of source resolution, so mixed material scales sensibly, and there is proper support for interlaced workflows that still exist in broadcast delivery.

Finishing tools cover primary and secondary colour correction with scopes, a title tool that produces broadcast legal graphics, multi camera editing with a switchable angle view, chroma keying and audio mixing with loudness metering. Export writes the delivery formats a station expects, and hardware accelerated encoding keeps the final render inside the deadline.

What it does

Mixed format timeline
Different resolutions, frame rates and codecs cut together with no conversion step.
Keyboard driven trimming
Ripple, roll, slip and slide bound to keys for editors working against a clock.
Broadcast codec support
Formats that station delivery specifications require, not just consumer camera output.
Multi camera editing
Switchable angle view for events shot with several bodies.
Colour correction with scopes
Primary and secondary grading with waveform and vectorscope readouts.
Broadcast titling
Title tool producing legal graphics with safe area handling.

Changed in this version

  • Additional camera and broadcast format support on import.
  • Faster export with hardware accelerated encoding.
  • Improved playback on timelines with heavy layer counts.
  • Loudness metering updated to current delivery targets.
  • Fixed an audio sync drift on some variable frame rate sources.

System requirements

ProcessorQuad core or better, six cores for high resolution work
Memory8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended
GraphicsGPU with 2 GB of dedicated memory
Disk6 GB for the install plus fast media storage
Display1920 by 1080 or higher

Install order

  1. Unpack the archive.
  2. Install the bundled codec components before the main application if the installer offers them separately.
  3. Run the installer to completion.
  4. Set the project preset and media folders before importing a card.

Worth knowing before you start

Some broadcast formats need the optional codec component installed to appear on import.

Project presets determine timeline resolution and frame rate, so choose before starting.
