About this release
Continuum is the toolkit that gets installed once and then quietly answers most requests for the next few years. Several hundred filters and transitions covering keying, tracking, blurs, glows, lens looks, film emulation, particles, lighting, titling, image restoration and warping, all installed into whichever hosts are present so the same effect behaves the same way wherever it is applied.
The units are grouped by what they do rather than by which acquisition they came from. Keying and matte work handle green screen from clean studio plates through to difficult location material, with edge, spill and light wrap controls that get the composite most of the way before a manual matte is needed. Particle and lighting units build practical effects, smoke, fire and beams without an external system.
Tracking runs through the same planar engine that the standalone tracker uses, which is the reason this bundle sits on so many machines. A screen replacement, a sign removal or a face blur that would otherwise be an afternoon of keyframes becomes a track and a corner pin, and the track can be reused by every other unit applied to the same layer.
Presets and a browser make the size manageable. Every unit ships with a library of starting points shown as live thumbnails, so finding the right look is a matter of scrolling rather than reading parameter names, and any modified look saves back into the library for reuse across projects and machines.
What it does
- Several hundred units
- Keying, blurs, glows, lens looks, film emulation, particles, lighting, titling and restoration in one install.
- Planar tracking built in
- The same tracking engine as the standalone tool, shared across every unit on a layer.
- Keying and matte tools
- Edge, spill and light wrap controls that handle difficult location green screen, not just clean studio plates.
- Particles and lighting
- Smoke, fire, beams and practical light effects generated inside the host rather than in a separate application.
- Preset browser
- Live thumbnails for every starting point, with modified looks saved back for reuse.
- Multi host install
- One installer places the units into every supported editing and compositing application on the machine.
Changed in this version
- New units added to the lighting and atmosphere groups.
- Tracking engine updated with better behaviour on partially occluded surfaces.
- Preset browser rendering improved on large libraries.
- Faster rendering on the blur and glow families.
- Improved handling of high dynamic range sources across the whole set.
System requirements
| Host | A supported editing or compositing application already installed |
|---|---|
| Processor | 64 bit Intel or AMD, six cores or more recommended |
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB for high resolution compositing |
| Graphics | GPU with 4 GB of dedicated memory |
| Disk | 8 GB free |
Install order
- Close every host application before installing.
- Unpack the archive and run the installer.
- Select which hosts should receive the units on the component screen.
- Reopen a host and let the first effect load build its shader cache.
Worth knowing before you start
The first application of a unit takes a moment while shaders compile, then it is instant.
Projects built with the previous major version open with parameters carried across.
