About this release
VirtualDJ turns a laptop into a full performance setup: multiple decks, a mixer section, effects, samplers, loop rolls and a browser that can hold a library of hundreds of thousands of tracks without slowing down. The Pro Infinity edition removes the limits on deck count, video, controller support and broadcasting, which is the version anyone playing to a room actually needs.
Controller support is the practical strength. Several hundred devices map automatically the moment they are plugged in, with the jog wheels, faders, pads and screens behaving the way the manufacturer intended, and anything unusual can be mapped by hand through a scripting layer that reaches every function in the program. Playing on a borrowed rig is a matter of plugging in rather than an evening of configuration.
The analysis engine does the unglamorous work. Beat grids, key detection, waveform colouring by frequency content and automatic gain levelling all run on import, so a track dropped in five minutes before it is played is already gridded and level matched with the rest of the library. Key aware suggestions propose what will mix cleanly out of the current track.
Beyond the mix there is stem separation for live acapella and instrumental work, a video engine for club screens with transitions and text overlays, karaoke support, and broadcasting that pushes a stream out while a recording of the set is written to disk. Automatic mixing keeps things running during a break without an obvious drop in quality.
What it does
- Unlimited decks
- Run two, four or more decks with a mixer section, effects and samplers on each.
- Automatic controller mapping
- Several hundred devices work correctly on plug in, and anything else can be mapped through the scripting layer.
- Live stem separation
- Split a playing track into vocal, drum, bass and instrumental parts on the fly for acapella and instrumental transitions.
- Analysis on import
- Beat grids, key detection, colour coded waveforms and gain levelling run automatically as tracks enter the library.
- Video and karaoke
- Video mixing with transitions and text overlays for club screens, plus a full karaoke path.
- Broadcast and record
- Stream a set out while writing a local recording, with the two running independently.
Changed in this version
- Stem separation quality improved, with far less bleed on dense mixes.
- New effect set built around the reworked audio engine.
- Browser performance improved on libraries past two hundred thousand tracks.
- Additional controller definitions added for recent hardware.
- Automatic mix transitions rewritten to hold energy across a set.
- Lower output latency on ASIO devices.
System requirements
| Processor | Dual core 2 GHz minimum, quad core recommended for stems |
|---|---|
| Memory | 4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended |
| Audio | Any output device, an ASIO interface recommended for live use |
| Disk | 1 GB for the install plus room for library caches |
| Display | 1280 by 720 or higher |
Install order
- Unpack the archive.
- Run the installer with the controller unplugged.
- Start the program once, then connect the controller so it is detected cleanly.
- Set the audio output and buffer size before playing to a room.
Worth knowing before you start
Analysis of a very large library takes a while, so run it before a gig rather than during one.
Skin and mapping files from an earlier version can be imported from the settings panel.
