About this release

Bridge is the file browser for people whose files are pictures. The system file explorer shows names and dates and expects you to know what is in each one, which falls apart the moment a folder contains four hundred frames from a shoot or a hundred layered documents from a campaign. Bridge shows the content at whatever thumbnail size you want, reads the formats the rest of the creative stack produces, and lets you work through them by eye.

It reads what the others cannot. Layered image documents, vector artwork, layout files, raw camera formats from essentially every body on the market, video, audio, fonts and colour swatch libraries all preview properly, including a full screen review mode for going through a shoot quickly. The preview is generated from the file itself rather than from a thumbnail somebody else embedded, so what you see is what is actually in there.

Sorting is where the time goes and where it saves it. Star ratings, colour labels, keywords, collections and filters combine so a shoot can be reduced to the frames worth working on in a single pass, and smart collections keep themselves current as new files land. Metadata edits apply across a selection, so copyright, contact details and keywords go onto four hundred files in one action rather than four hundred.

It also does the tedious jobs in bulk. Batch rename with structured naming, batch raw processing through the same engine the image editor uses, format conversion, contact sheets, PDF output and stack handling for bracketed or burst sequences all run from the same window, which is why it stays open on a machine doing production work even when nothing is being edited.
