About this release

TeamViewer solved the awkward part of remote support a long time ago, which is not the screen sharing but the connection itself. Both ends run the program, one reads out an identifier and a code, and the session opens through whatever network arrangement sits between them without anyone configuring a router or opening a port. That is why it ended up on so many machines: it works when the person on the other end cannot be talked through anything more complicated than reading numbers off a screen.

The session itself is a full remote desktop rather than a view. Mouse and keyboard control, multi monitor handling with a display switcher, clipboard sharing in both directions, remote printing to the local printer, and quality settings that trade sharpness for responsiveness on a poor connection. Several people can join the same session, which is how escalation between support tiers actually works.

File transfer runs in its own panel alongside the session, with a two sided browser and drag and drop between machines. Transfers resume after an interruption, whole folders move at once, and the panel works independently of the remote view so a large transfer continues while the session carries on. There is also a straight file transfer mode for when no screen sharing is needed at all.

For machines that are administered rather than supported, unattended access is the important half. A device is set up once with its own access credentials, then reached later without anyone present, waking on the network where the hardware supports it and reconnecting automatically after a restart. Sessions can be recorded, access logged, and the connection list organised into groups for anyone responsible for more than a handful of machines.

Install order

1. Unpack the archive.
2. Run the installer and choose between a full install and a single use run.
3. Set up unattended access only on machines that genuinely need it.
4. Note the identifier and set a strong access password before leaving the machine.
